Chapter 1772 -1765: Su Yingxue Is Coming Back Soon
Zhuo Junli coughed lightly, pretending that the awkward moment never happened, and then turned to leave the palace.
Marquis of Martial South’s Manor.
Chu Heng came late at night, dressed in a low-key silver-gray robe with embroidered clouds, without alarming many people in the manor.
Yet Su Hao and Wu Jinyan still waited in the front hall, and after greeting him, Wu Jinyan went to the kitchen to prepare a midnight snack.
Su Hao privately met with Chu Heng and couldn’t help but feel his heart ache.
He held Chu Heng’s shoulder, his eyes full of affection, “The Crown Prince is about to ascend, and you’ll finally be able to meet your parents.”
Su Yingxue and Chu Yihan left back then, never to return. After all these years, they have never come back to Jiang Du City to see their child, to accompany him as he grew up. Chu Heng has had a difficult journey.
Yet Chu Heng didn’t show any difficulty; he maintained the same warm and gentle smile as when he was young. “Uncle, don’t you miss mother too?”
Su Hao chuckled softly, “Of course, every year she writes letters, which I keep by my bedside. Your aunt often jokes that she’s a little jealous.”
Yingxue was his only sister. Though he never said it out loud, he truly missed her.
So many years have passed, he wonders what she looks like now.
Chu Heng chatted with Su Hao with a smile, and Wu Jinyan had already arranged the midnight snack. She lifted her skirt and entered the room, smiling amiably, “Is hubby going to let the Crown Prince stay hungry like this? Perhaps the Crown Prince hasn’t even had dinner.”
Su Hao suddenly slapped his thigh, “Yes, the Prince must be hungry. Let’s go to Yunjingtang for a meal.”
Chu Heng was invited over by them.
As they walked, Wu Jinyan deliberately tugged at Su Hao’s sleeve, and the two fell half a step behind Chu Heng. By the time Chu Heng reached the entrance of Yunjingtang, Wu Jinyan pulled Su Hao back.
Su Hao looked down at her, “Why not go in? Doing so would neglect the Crown Prince.”
Wu Jinyan covered her mouth and chuckled softly, “How could we possibly neglect the Crown Prince? There are already people in Yunjingtang to host the Crown Prince, no?”
“Who?” Su Hao thought for a moment, “Chen Yang hasn’t returned from the Imperial College, surely you didn’t mean to have the servants accompany the Crown Prince for a meal?”
“Have you forgotten you have a daughter?” Wu Jinyan gently poked Su Hao’s arm to remind him.
Su Hao did remember he had a daughter, but he was well aware of her nature, “That young girl, we spoiled her silly, she hasn’t even learned proper etiquette, how could we let her entertain the Crown Prince alone? Moreover, they are grown now; it wouldn’t be proper.”
A lone man and woman together, if word got out that their daughter had intentions to cling to Chu Heng, it would make him very uncomfortable.
Therefore, he never openly invited Chu Heng to the manor to play. Chu Heng, being diligent with state affairs, would occasionally come after work, have a meal, and return to the palace.
“You… you really are so dense!” Wu Jinyan couldn’t help but stomp her foot, “Our daughter has that young girl from the Xiao family staying with her. The Xiao family comes to the capital every year. Do you think Tangtang stays here because she loves the food at our manor?”
Su Hao was stunned for a good while, “Are you saying Tangtang has feelings for the Crown Prince?”
Wu Jinyan quickly covered Su Hao’s mouth and pulled him a little farther away.
The two of them stood outside the round arch door in the corridor, and from a distance, they could see the lights in Yunjingtang, where three young children were sitting together at a table, happily laughing and playing, their laughter filling the hall.
Such a beautiful scene was one in which it would be inappropriate for the elders to intrude.
