Ch-3160: Could He Hurry Up and Spill Already?
Could he hurry up and spill already?
Ning Shu’s expression was calm, but inside, her mind was buzzing.
To be honest, she was very curious about the lives of other task-takers.
Wen Xing, however, had no idea what Ning Shu was thinking and didn’t talk about his personal affairs.
Ning Shu didn’t press him either and simply said, “Before I became a task-taker, I was always hospitalized and I died on the hospital bed.”
Wen Xing raised an eyebrow. “You don’t seem like someone who has been ill for a long time.”
“That’s all in the past. I’ve started over, so naturally, I don’t look like I did when I was bedridden.”
Ning Shu: I’ve already told you my story, how about you tell me some of your gossip already aaah?
Wen Xing sat up. “I come from an influential family. In ancient times, that meant studying and selling our talents to the imperial family.”
This might end up being her first time hearing about a task-taker’s romance.
Ning Shu had always been a lone wolf, but she understood that cooperation between task-takers was sometimes necessary.
And yet, she didn’t even fully understand the mindset of other task-takers.
Wen Xing talked about his family, how he died, and then how he became a task-taker… Blah blah blah…
Ning Shu rested her chin on her hand, her expression indifferent. Not listening, not listening, not listening…
“Task-takers can exist for a very long time, as long as they aren’t eliminated,” Wen Xing said while resting his hands behind his head and looking at the sky. “When I first became a task-taker, I traveled from one world to another. I saw things I’d never seen while I was alive.
“I slowly grew tired of it. Moving from one world to another, being immortal, it all started feeling boring and meaningless. Sometimes, I even thought about ending it all and reincarnating.
“But life is suffering. I don’t want to reincarnate, and I’m afraid of it. Besides, no task-taker has ever managed to reincarnate. Once you take this path, there’s no turning back.”
Ning Shu listened quietly. Everyone has periods of confusion in life, and Ning Shu herself had experienced them at times. To avoid it, she always set a clear goal for herself to strive toward.
Wen Xing asked Ning Shu, “Do you know what people do when they are lonely?”
Ning Shu’s eyes flickered. “Find someone to love, to fulfill their emotional needs, to comfort each other.”
“Exactly, that’s what I did back then.” Wen Xing sighed. “There are many task-takers, coming from different worlds, living in different eras, each with their own marks of history.
“I met a fiery and passionate woman, and we fell in love.”
Ning Shu asked, “I’ve always been curious. How do task-taker couples engage in physical intimacy?”
Wen Xing: …
That wasn’t the point here!
“We loved each other deeply, so much that I thought I’d found my life’s purpose, which was to be with my lover forever.
“Whenever I took on a task, I wanted to be with her. I want to breathe the same air in the same world as her.”
Ning Shu: …
Ning Shu supported her chin with her hand. She bet that this love story must not have a happy ending.
It sounded like they had indulged in trivial love and failed to extricate themselves.
“Then what?” Ning Shu asked.
“Then…” Wen Xing paused. “Maybe the lives of task-takers are just too long, long enough to fully know someone. Gradually, our intense love faded, and we grew tired of each other, and things became dull and flat for both of us.”
Ning Shu said, “Even so, staying together isn’t bad. You can’t expect everything to always be fiery and intense.”
Love was based on reproduction, hormones, and loneliness.
“Could you bear endless life with someone you no longer love? One day, she told me she didn’t love me anymore. She said she once did, but not anymore.”
Ning Shu asked, “And what about you?”
