Chapter 1629 -1622: Can We Shake Hands?
She was thrown by Chu Yihan to the bedside of Princess Shu Li, where a court physician was present, seemingly frightened by Chu Yihan’s bloodthirsty coldness, kneeling by the side and shivering.
Upon seeing Su Yingxue, the court physician revealed a look filled with hope, “Dr. Su has arrived, she can surely save Princess Shu Li!”
Su Yingxue first felt Princess Shu Li’s pulse, then examined her further.
She took out her needle kit, performed acupuncture to facilitate Princess Shu Li’s Qi flow, and afterwards asked the court physician to bring over the medication that had been sitting in the corner.
Before she could feed the medicine to Princess Shu Li, Chu Yihan grabbed her wrist, “This medicine has cooled! Are you trying to harm my mother?”
“Even if the medicine has cooled, it still retains its effects! If we brew it now, Princess Shu Li has to wait even longer, and you’ll be even more anxious!” Su Yingxue lowered her head to look at the medicine, which was prepared by the court physician. Chu Yihan wouldn’t suspect her of poisoning it, would he?
“If I can’t cure Princess Shu Li in front of you, not only would you not spare me, even if I were to escape with my life by chance, it would tarnish the reputation of Tongchang Medical Center if word got out,” Su Yingxue had no choice but to say more, to put his mind at ease.
Only then did Chu Yihan let go, and Su Yingxue fed the medicine to Princess Shu Li.
Her movements were careful and meticulous, even the palace maids attending at the side started to admire her.
Their view of Su Yingxue started to change, the Eldest Young Miss, who used to be arrogantly overbearing, seemed like a different person.
No longer as frightening to them, no longer disliked by the prince!
After taking the medication, Princess Shu Li soon woke up.
Her first instinct was to grasp Chu Yihan’s hand, checking if he was unharmed, before finally letting go of the breath she had been holding in her throat.
Then, she unexpectedly saw, “Court physician, Miss Su, what is this…?”
“I was brought here by Your Highness…” Su Yingxue blurted out, but upon encountering Chu Yihan’s icy glare, she quickly corrected herself, “His Highness invited me to come treat you, Princess. How do you feel now?”
“I am tolerable, no longer feeling discomfort,” Princess Shu Li was startled to see silver needles still inserted in her arm!
But Su Yingxue quickly moved to remove the needles, her withdrawal fast and gentle, whispering, “Your Highness, your body is too weak to be over-nourished. You have a history of weakness, and recently you have been nourished too frequently, which your body cannot sustain, thus resulting in symptoms like nosebleeds and fainting, but it’s not serious.”
Behind Su Yingxue, the court physician heaved a deep sigh.
Right, isn’t it?
But the Ninth Prince wouldn’t believe him!
He hadn’t even spoken a few words when the prince, valuing Princess Shu Li’s life above all else, dashed out of the palace to fetch someone.
Lucky for him Su Yingxue quickly roused the person.
Otherwise, he doubted he could leave Princess Shu Li’s palace tonight.
“It’s all my fault!” Princess Shu Li grasped Chu Yihan’s hand, whispering regretfully, “Miss Su brought a lot of nourishing goods recently, I intended to have you consume more, not realizing that when you refused to eat them, I ended up taking too much, thus becoming too weak to be nourished.”
As Su Yingxue said, she did have symptoms like nosebleeds before fainting.
“Are you truly fine, mother?” Chu Yihan’s cold eyes shone with an intense pressure, directed at Su Yingxue.
Su Yingxue met his gaze frankly, “Of course. If you don’t trust me, you can invite all the court physicians in the palace to consult for Princess Shu Li.”
If one doesn’t trust her, then surely they would trust all the court physicians in the palace?
“There’s no need! There’s no need for such trouble. I trust Miss Su, her medical skills, inherited from Princess Shu Li, are surely excellent,” Princess Shu Li stopped Chu Yihan, forcing a smile.
Even though Su Yingxue and Chu Yihan did not get along, years ago, Long Shuli had once saved her life.
The daughter she taught, whose medical reputation was renowned in Jiang Du City, and even the empress cherished greatly, how could she be any less skilled?
“Mother, you should rest early,” Chu Yihan, worried for Princess Shu Li, helped her lie down.
But Empress Dowager Shu refused to agree. She knew Chu Yihan’s temperament; he would certainly not converse amiably with Su Yingxue, nor would he courteously see her off.
She summoned palace maids, “Someone come, escort Miss Su out of the palace carefully. Ensure she is taken all the way to the palace gate without a hint of negligence.”
Her gaze soft and gentle, she looked towards Su Yingxue, “Today, I am indisposed and cannot arrange a gift. On another day, I will prepare one to thank Miss Su for today’s rescue.”
“There’s no need for formality, Your Highness.”
Su Yingxue rose to her feet, performed a junior’s respectful bow to her, then withdrew.
She also exhorted the court physician with a few words, to prescribe gentler medicine for Empress Dowager Shu in the coming days, to suit her constitution; sternly warning against administering strong medicine simply for quick effects.
The court physician nodded cautiously, “Miss Su is attentive, I’ll bear it in mind.”
When it was only Empress Dowager Shu and Chu Yihan left in her chamber, she reprimanded him in a low voice, “Why are you so harsh to Su Yingxue? She’s faultless today. If you harm her, how will you explain yourself? Princess Shu Li will not let you off so easily every time.”
Chu Yihan’s health had not yet recovered; to endure further harm for her sake.
How her heart would ache?
“Mother, your son can compromise on everything, can let go of grievances with Su Yingxue, but I cannot stand to see anything happen to you,” Chu Yihan gripped Empress Dowager Shu’s hand with urgency.
He too had lost his memory, yet deep in his heart lingered a fear.
The fear of losing his mother, never being able to protect her again.
It was as if, at a time when he was young and powerless, his mother had already left him.
Empress Dowager Shu gently patted the back of his hand, “My good child, your mother won’t leave you so easily. I still wish to see you marry and have children! I also want to embrace my little grandson.”
Chu Yihan’s lips were tightly sealed, and he no longer spoke.
He only left the palace after accompanying his mother to sleep.
He knew there must be someone in the palace intending to stop him; he was not so courteous to Su Yingxue, and even if his Imperial Brother came to know of it, he wouldn’t be let off easily.
In the end, he would be reprimanded.
But he left the palace smoothly. At the palace gate, there was only Su Yingxue waiting for him.
Dressed in a red, form-fitting martial outfit, its style sculpting her slender waistline into a perfect curve by a belt, her fullness and erect posture were shrouded in a silvery-grey layer by the moonlight, becoming increasingly apparent in the eyes of men.
Chu Yihan believed he would be utterly unmoved.
Yet ultimately, he was indeed captivated by Su Yingxue for a moment.
“Chu Yihan, wait!”
Su Yingxue rubbed her arms and walked towards him.
It seemed she had been waiting for quite some time, her little face red with cold, with two distinct red marks beneath her nose bridge, making her appear somewhat fragile.
“If you think Your Highness will submit to you, that’s utterly impossible. If you wish Your Highness to do something for you…”
“I don’t ask for much.”
Su Yingxue interrupted his presumptions, her gaze warm as she looked at him, extending her hand, “I saved your mother; I have but one request, may we shake hands?”
May we shake hands?
The lady’s gentle voice, just like the moonlight tonight, was irresistibly moving.
Chu Yihan stared at her, his brows deeply furrowed.
