Chapter 1462: Chapter 1463: Go out surreptitiously and show me one.
He had no other choice.
“How could it be…” Miss Su’s expression was dazed as she took two steps back, seemingly unwilling to believe the person he liked already had a boyfriend—and an even better one at that.
She took a deep breath, lifted her chin, then suddenly thought of something and said, “Among the people I know, aside from my cousin, there’s no one more outstanding than you. But my cousin’s girlfriend… She’s completely unimpressive. Even if you liked someone, it wouldn’t be her. Who exactly is this person you say is better than you?”
She bit her lip, the pale pink of her lips marked with two teeth imprints. Her delicate brows furrowed tightly, and she murmured softly, “Senior, I know you don’t like me. I’m not worthy of you either. You could just tell me directly; there’s no need… no need to lie to deceive me.”
“…”
“You said there’s someone better than you, and everyone thinks so. A man like that in Capital City is rare… Your crush isn’t Rong Yan, is it?”
Trapped inside, figuring out how to leave, Rong Yan suddenly heard her name and instinctively looked over.
What was going on?
Right at that moment, Estelle’s third call came through, clearly showing that someone’s patience had hit its limit. She had no choice but to go back to help.
Gritting her teeth, steeling her resolve, she grabbed her phone and walked out without looking back.
Since the moment Miss Su mentioned that name, the atmosphere in the hallway froze for an instant. At that very moment, Rong Yan appeared from the bathroom. Her sudden presence startled Miss Su, who was in the middle of her confession. Miss Su, now caught between embarrassment and complete lack of composure, realized who the approaching woman was and exclaimed, “Rong Yan?”
Her voice rose uncontrollably due to shock.
Rong Yan hadn’t expected the person confessing at the door to be her. Even less did she expect the person being confessed to was—Zhong Yuye, someone she hadn’t seen in ages.
Her lips twitched as she faced the gazes from both of them. Feeling too awkward to continue pretending she hadn’t noticed, she reluctantly raised a hand, waved to them, and pulled her lips into a smile—an expression so stiff it was faker than a fake smile. “Ah, what a coincidence.”
To avoid Miss Su misunderstanding her as eavesdropping, she rushed to explain, “I just happened to be handling something here and ran into you two unexpectedly.”
Miss Su slowly snapped out of her initial shock, realizing Rong Yan might have overheard their conversation. Her face turned visibly unpleasant. “You heard everything?”
Admitting to overhearing a rejected confession at this moment would make her an idiot!
Rong Yan didn’t hesitate to play dumb, meeting her gaze. “Heard what?”
Her expression was as natural as could be, as she said, “I just washed my hands and came out. I didn’t even realize you were outside.”
Miss Su wasn’t entirely convinced. “You’re not lying to me, are you?”
Rong Yan decisively crossed her arms and countered, “Why would I lie to you?”
Her eyes swept across the two of them, betraying a curious expression. “You’re talking about something that can’t be overheard?”
Caught off guard by the question, Miss Su stammered, “No, no!”
“Then why are you afraid I overheard?”
Miss Su was left entirely speechless, pursed her lips stubbornly, and slightly raised her chin. “I’m just worried about you eavesdropping! Who told you to sneak out so suspiciously? Isn’t it normal for me to be suspicious?”
Rong Yan hadn’t intended to overhear anything. Seeing her act like that, the warmth in Rong Yan’s gaze quickly drained away. She said calmly, “The restroom only has one way out. Could Miss Su non-sneakily exit another way for me to see?”
