Also, many thanks to everyone who bought me coffee (*≧∀≦*)
Ye Qing had leapt from the tower.
General Ji’s face was grave. “What is Master Ye intending to do?”
Ye Qing used qinggong to dash through the storm, swift and resolute.
Master...
If Xuanyuan’s soul was never meant to perish, then forgive me... for making this decision on my own!
I apologize for going against your will. When I return to the Imperial Advisor’s Hall, I’ll accept any punishment you see fit!
I don’t know whether this will be enough to save him.
Perhaps he still cannot be saved, and I’ll only end up wasting the most precious gift you ever entrusted to me.
But no matter what, I must at least try.
If I’ve made a mistake today... then let me spend the rest of my life atoning for it.
……
Wenren Chong vaulted down and landed beside Gu Jiao. “Commander Xiao, that man. Who is he?”
Gu Jiao watched the figure of Ye Qing flashing through the rain.
Her gaze flickered slightly as she replied, “Grand General Xuanyuan Qi.”
Wenren Chong was stunned to his core. “T-The Grand General? Isn’t he... could it be...?”
“No, he is.” Gu Jiao cut him off before he could even finish the question, her tone succinct and forceful. “Prepare a stretcher!”
With that, she turned and hurried down the city tower at full speed.
The rain fell harder now, drumming on every surface.
By the time Ye Qing reached the father and son, all three of them had been thoroughly soaked by the storm.
Ye Qing knelt on one knee and pulled a small porcelain bottle from within his robes. “Xuanyuan Zheng, help me lift your father’s head.”
Liao Chen blinked, momentarily stunned.
It had been many years since anyone had called him by his given name. He didn’t react at once.
“I’m Ye Qing, the chief disciple of the Imperial Advisor’s Hall.” Ye Qing said sharply, his gaze turning cold. “If you don’t hurry, once your father truly dies, not even the Golden Immortal Da Luo will be able to bring him back!”
Liao Chen’s tears flowed anew. He numbly cradled his father’s head, which was growing colder by the moment. He could no longer feel a pulse or breath.
Could he... really be brought back from this?
Ye Qing pulled out the cork from the bottle. “At the Imperial Advisor’s Hall, we’ve treated many patients whose breathing and pulse had ceased. Not everyone can be saved, but as long as death isn’t absolute, there’s still a glimmer of hope.”
Liao Chen choked out a sob. “How do you know when death is absolute?”
Ye Qing took out the last remaining pill from the bottle, pried open Xuanyuan Qi’s mouth, and fed it to him. “If a person’s breathing and pulse stop for over a quarter of an hour, they’re usually beyond saving. But someone like your father, with such profound internal force... might be able to hold on just a bit longer.”
This pill didn’t seem to dissolve instantly upon entering the mouth.
Ye Qing then struck Xuanyuan Qi’s abdomen with his palm, sending a surge of internal force to push the pill down into his stomach.
Liao Chen carefully avoided the weapons still lodged in his father’s body and gently let him rest in his arms.
In the past, his father had always been his support.
From now on, he hoped he could be his father’s support in return.
“There are two things.” Ye Qing glanced at him and said. “First, I can’t be sure whether your father is truly beyond saving. If he is already fully dead, then this pill won’t help at all.”
“The second.”
At this point, Ye Qing paused slightly before continuing, “Even if your father isn’t fully dead yet, this pill might still have no effect whatsoever.”
Liao Chen looked at him with a complicated expression. “The pill you gave my father... what is it exactly?”
“Purple herb poison.” Ye Qing met his eyes and answered honestly. “You’ve probably heard of it. There’s a 99 percent chance that it will poison your father to death completely, leaving no possibility of revival.”
Liao Chen squeezed his fingers slightly and murmured, “So the hope of survival is only one or two out of a hundred?”
“Not even that many.” Ye Qing thought for a moment before replying, “Given your father’s current condition, it’s more like one or two out of ten thousand, at best.”
……
When Gu Jiao arrived on the scene, she quickly realized that, given Xuanyuan Qi’s condition, there was no way they could move him onto a stretcher.
…If, that was, Xuanyuan Qi still had any hope of being saved.
Gu Jiao began carefully removing the weapons embedded in his body, starting with the long spear.
Ye Qing, being the direct disciple of the Imperial Advisor and a skilled physician in his own right, cooperated without hesitation, assisting her with steady hands.
Wenren Chong and several others held up straw raincoats over them to shield them from the relentless downpour.
“What did you give him?” Gu Jiao asked Ye Qing.
“Purple herb poison.” Ye Qing replied.
Gu Jiao immediately understood.
Since arriving in the State of Yan, she had heard of this poison more than once. The last time, when Gu Changqing had been run through and sent into critical condition by An Hun’s sword, nearly crippled for life, the Imperial Advisor had also intended to use this very poison on him.
However, that particular dose had already expired.
Gu Changqing had pulled through on his own sheer willpower and self-hypnosis.
It had been hailed as a medical miracle, but Xuanyuan Qi’s case was vastly different from Gu Changqing’s.
Gu Changqing had already regained consciousness and was no longer in danger of death. He had simply refused to accept becoming a cripple.
But Xuanyuan Qi… he had truly stopped breathing.
Gu Jiao pulled on silver-thread gloves, and with a flick of snow silkworm thread, she sliced through the spear lodged in Xuanyuan Qi’s chest. “Don’t tell me this one’s expired too?”
“No, definitely not!” Ye Qing quickly explained, recalling the instructions his master had given him before he departed. “The pill my master prepared for Gu Changqing had been kept for years. This one, though, we only just recovered recently from the Han Family Estate.”
“Han Family?” Gu Jiao used snow silkworm thread to slice through the remaining shaft of the spear in Xuanyuan Qi’s back.
Ye Qing nodded. “That’s right. Master said the Han Family likely controls a vast field of purple herbs. They’ve stockpiled enormous quantities, and the Han Family’s Black Cavalry and Fifth Master Han’s demon horse were all raised on purple herb poison.”
“The Black Cavalry.” At the mention of that name, Gu Jiao’s brow furrowed slightly, but it did explain why Fifth Master Han’s horse was so formidable.
“Didn’t that mean a lot of horses died in the process?” she asked.
Ye Qing nodded. “Animals are much more resistant to purple herb poison than humans, but even so, there’s still more than a seventy percent failure rate. Countless young horses were poisoned to death, and only the ones that survived were deemed worthy to become Black Cavalry mounts.”
Gu Jiao said nothing more.
The Han Family truly stopped at nothing in their pursuit of power and strength.

Description:
In the suspenseful supernatural novel “Records of Mortals,” Jiang Baiyan, once a solitary and impoverished youth, finds refuge in the Shi family of Chang’an due to his extraordinary bloodline. With his clear and captivating peach blossom eyes, this seemingly innocent young man conceals a fanatical and malevolent lunatic within. Destined to succumb to darkness amidst hardship and degradation, he becomes a harbinger of chaos.
When Shi Dai suddenly transmigrates, she takes on the role of the Shi family’s young lady, the one who subjects him to countless trials, eventually leading to her demise.
The twist? She never got to finish reading the novel.
From what she knew of the plot, Jiang Baiyan was just a silent, timid, and often bullied pitiable character.
***
Jiang Baiyan had never encountered someone like Shi Dai.
After he had slaughtered all the evil creatures in the garden, the blood-stained young man, exuding a murderous aura, approached her step by step, his lips curling into a malicious smile, "Scared?"
Shi Dai responded, “You’re really amazing! I applaud you until I spin like a spiral and fly around the moon three hundred times! And also——you have dimples when you smile!"
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
After seeing her at a lantern festival with another man, Jiang Baiyan lowered his eyes, his fingers twirling her hair. He said in a mocking and sinister tone, "The mansion in the western suburbs...if I hide you there, no one will find you, right?"
Shi Dai replied, "Does it come with meals and lodging? Can I sleep in everyday? Oh, and your cooking is the best!"
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
Jiang Baiyan was supposed to dislike her, even hate her, but as their separation drew near, his eyes turned red and he grabbed her sleeve, pleading, "Don't abandon me, alri—”
Shi Dai responded, "Alright, alright, I’ll only have you. Mwah."
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
He hasn't finished his lines yet though…
