Chapter 4552: Leaning In
Lyra Mistwalker’s pupils quivered.
Honestly, she was afraid, very much afraid. However, she had an inkling that nothing would happen to her since she heard her elder brother, Lest Mistwalker, had truly turned traitor as he had joined the forces of the Divine Emperor of Death and created a formidable formation that blocked the advent of the Heaven’s Warriors.
His name had become infamous, putting him on a kill-on-sight list. His bounty was high enough to put evil people to shame.
The Mistwalker Family had completely disowned him after he brought them shame. He could never come back, and if he dared to come back, then he would be roasted alive in the wretched fires of their formations.
Lyra Mistwalker had already lost all hope of any redemption for her brother. There wasn’t a day that she didn’t think about his safety, wondering if he was enslaved to do certain things. But the Divine Emperor of Death claimed that he was having a great time, which went against what she imagined, leaving her astounded, unable to speak for a few moments.
The fact that she was also invited only fueled her stupefied expression.
“Wh-What do you mean?” She uttered.
Davis blinked, wondering if she hadn’t heard him clear. He pursed his lips, “Your brother is with us willingly, and I’m doing my best to aid him aid us. It’s a give-and-take relationship, so you don’t have to be afraid that we’re working him to death, although he is very much willing to work himself to death since he’s crazed about formations.”
“…” Somehow, Lyra Mistwalker didn’t doubt that.
Davis continued, “He has asked me to spare you if I ever met you, but as someone who knows the weight of bonds, I don’t wish to separate you two siblings. Even if you do not want to aid my family, it’s fine. As long as you come with us, you can fulfill the role of a hostage for him.”
“You-!” Lyra Mistwalker trembled, “You just said-”
“It’s a give and take, alright, but I never said it was equal. I have the leverage, always.”
“…”
Davis’s voice turned cold as he stepped forward and towered over her figure, causing Lyra Mistwalker to nod twice as she cast her gaze down.
He smiled and turned around, “On behalf of your brother’s contributions, you are free to leave.”
“But I doubt the Mistwalker Family will think that way. As far as they consider, if you’re the only one to return alive, then you’re pretty much the traitor, the oddball, the sheep, the sacrifice to appease the elders and ancestors who had lost their line’s supreme geniuses.”
“…”
Lyra Mistwalker’s expression didn’t change. She knew she was in his palm the moment she got caught. News that Lambert Mistwalker had been killed also reached her ears, and she inwardly rejoiced. However, this was the death knell.
The elders would be furious beyond compare and would do anything to make sure that they were all buried along with Lambert Mistwalker and Layla Mistwalker.
Even her status as someone who had comprehended Immaculate Alchemy Laws would do very little to help her. After all, she was not of the main family like Layla Mistwalker and Lambert Mistwalker, and she wasn’t exactly innocent since she wanted to go after her brother, and this time around, they wouldn’t hesitate to use soul search, leaving her thoughts utterly naked in front of them.
“…”
Davis left her gaze as he left the door open.
But inwardly, he had watched her expression closely. He felt that if he could recruit her successfully, like he had recruited Lest, then the pressure on Dalila, Tina, and Myria would be greatly reduced. After all, as someone capable of comprehending Immaculate Alchemy Laws, Lyra Mistwalker was no roadside flower. She was destined to rise in ranks until he had crashed her fate, the siblings’ fates.
If he could nurture Lyra Mistwalker, then he guessed she would be extremely helpful. But at the same time, he wondered what to think about sharing their unique pill recipes and knowledge. It was a double-edged sword since she could also poison it.
Regardless, he was clear in wanting to recruit her since she had no ill intentions from what he could sense.
He was just returning to his palace, crossing the bridge, when he suddenly saw Fairy Thunderblaze on the western bridge and Fairy Xiu Juili on the eastern bridge. Because there was a statue of him at the center, they couldn’t see each other.
“…”
Instantly, he frowned inwardly.
He didn’t know if Fairy Thunderblaze could get jealous, but he knew she would definitely target those whom he took an interest in using one way or another, especially if they had nearly nothing to do with him. He was about to turn around and leave when a melodious yet seductive voice echoed.
“Saint Davis~”
Davis had no choice but to stop since he heard Fairy Xiu Juili.
Her floating figure rapidly closed in from the side, and she greeted him with a graceful nod.
“Oh? What brings you here, my immortal fairy? I don’t see your friend with you?”
Davis looked around, trying to catch Ralaza Heavenshade, but he was trying to gesture to Fairy Xiu Juili that a monstrous woman was inbound. She had already caught sight of them, her gaze turning amused.
But hearing Davis’s question, Fairy Xiu Juili couldn’t help but lower her head, her ears blushing a little.
“Today, I have come to meet and spend some time alone with you, Saint Davis- of course, only if it isn’t troublesome-”
“Not at all.”
Davis blinked as his expression brightened, “My words to you are not fake. I will always welcome you unless you have changed your mind.”
“You are too kind.” Fairy Xiu Juili lightly nodded as she adjusted her strand of black hair over her ear. Her jade hairpin reflected the image of Fairy Thunderblaze in his eyes, and her gaze looked somewhat dubious as she came to a stop, causing Davis to abruptly lean in.
Fairy Xiu Juili froze.
The warmth of a man was fully around, and his uniquely wild scent made her feel dizzy, but it wasn’t as much as the great deal of embarrassment and excitement she felt, causing blood to rush to her head.
She didn’t resist. She didn’t flail. She relaxed, trying to feel more of him.
Indeed, Davis embraced Fairy Xiu Juili, but his gaze was on Fairy Thunderblaze, his brows narrowed.
He was warning her with his gaze not to harass Fairy Xiu Juili with her power.
After all, he had seen what women can do to other women when they see a woman they dislike, but getting what they couldn’t get. He thought of warning her before it could happen.
However, Fairy Thunderblaze’s expression was cold. She had totally mistaken it that he was saying that she was nothing by being able to get Celestial Fairies left and right.
